Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH) In Critical Condition

Democratic Ohio Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones remains in critical condition after suffering a brain aneurysm last night. Here's the WaPo's updated report:

Tubbs Jones' office has released a statement saying that she suffered an aneurysm while driving last night. "At the present time Rep. Tubbs Jones condition has stabilized and she is receiving the best care available," the statement says. Local news reports say she remains unconscious.

Tubbs Jones, 58, is the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress. She was a strong supporter of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) during the Democratic presidential primary but later switched to back Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.). Like her fellow Democratic members of Congress, she is scheduled to be a superdelegate at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Our thoughts are with her and her family. We'll update as more information becomes available.

Her family has removed her from life support.  Doctors report she has limited brain function.  This is a sad day in Cleveland, and a sad month with the loss of local councilperson Fannie Lewis.

She is an absolutely wonderful woman and Congresswoman.

Re: Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones (2.00 / 1)

Very sad.

Clearly wonderful woman and -- even though it seems crass to articulate it -- such an asset to the Democratic Party.

On a lighthearted note, my friends and I jokingly cribbed her tendency to preface a statement with "UNDERSTAND THIS:" before she made a point.

She will be missed.

My parents are about 5 years older than she is. I called them up just to say I loved them. What a sad day man.

God speed. (2.00 / 1)

I met Stephanie in a NY airport waiting for a flight to Cleveland (slightly before the Ohio primary vote).

She had such great stories about Hillary, and said she was having the time of her life stumping for her.

Heartbreaking.

CNN had stated she passed and then she was on life support.  God Speed to you, Stephanie.
